I was busy the week before Christmas. However, I wasn’t exclusively getting ready for the holiday, but also continuing to adjust my dividend stock Portfolio.
I’ve got three more transactions to report. One was a continued reduction in one of my positions, followed by couple of additions to existing positions.
I’m not certain these will be the last moves of 2018 (as I may have some tax loss harvesting to do), but if they are, it’s been an active year with regard to the Portfolio.
Here are the details for my three transactions…
Omega Healthcare Investors (OHI)
By now you probably know I’ve been paring down my OHI position in an effort to reduce my exposure to this healthcare REIT. My last partial sale was in early November when I sold 20 shares. At the time, I said I think I like where I’m at with OHI. However, with REITs holding up relatively well during the recent market downturn (until last week), I decided to continue to further reduce the holding and use the proceeds to invest in some other stocks in my Portfolio that offer what I believe to be better growth potential and better dividend growth.
On 12/18/18, I sold another 20 shares of OHI at $35.86/sh. After the commission and SEC fee, the sale proceeds were $715.19. My OHI share total has now been reduced to 62.004 shares.
The sale resulted in a long-term capital gain of $117.29.
A reduction of $52.80 in annual forward dividend income also occurred with the sale.
Abbvie (ABBV)
I sold 14 shares of biotech ABBV roughly 3 weeks ago. At the time, the stock was trading at $94.27 after nearly a 20% increase in about 4 weeks. I was happy with the sale and didn’t necessarily have an inclination to re-acquire the shares. However, ABBV had a swift decline over the 3 weeks since that sale, and I decided to re-purchase those 14 shares.
On 12/18/18, I added 14 shares of ABBV at $84.06/sh, for a total of $1,178.84 after commissions. The additional 14 shares brings my ABBV share total back over 100, to 108.364 shares.
This purchase also results in the addition of $59.92 in annual forward dividend income.
Altria (MO)
I initiated a position in MO at just under $58 in June of this year, and added more at $54.54 in late November. After the initial purchase the stock actually moved higher. However, it’s been a quick reversal since early November. This led to my addition late last month. Doubts about the cost of MO’s investment stake in Juul, and the overall market declines have sent MO shares even lower recently. The continued decline has now led me to average down and build my MO position a bit further.
On 12/18/18, I added 20 shares of MO at $51.3405/sh, for a total of $1,028.81 after commissions. The additional 20 shares brings my MO share total to 90.633 shares. While the position is growing, MO is still in the bottom 25% in my Portfolio weighting, so there’s room to add some more in the future.
This purchase brings the addition of $64.00 in annual forward dividend income.
Summary
My transaction activity has certainly picked up with the volatility in the markets.
The Portfolio continues to evolve… I had a partial sale of OHI and additional purchases of ABBV and MO.
The net effect of these three transactions was the addition of $1,492.46 in new capital, and an increase of $71.12 in my forward annual dividend income. The projected annual dividend income for my Portfolio now stands at over $9,300.
Have you been busy adding to your portfolio with all the price declines the market has presented? I look forward to hearing about your purchases!
Making moves making moves, engineering all the way! 🙂
Let’s hope these moves were engineered correctly, Mr. Robot.
Wishing your growing family a Happy New Year!
Nice buys I recent purchased ABBV and MO myself and am looking to buy more in the future.
Glad to see we are in agreement on these two names, Matthew. They certainly sport some impressive yields.
I think I’m set with ABBV for now (unless it drops into the $70s again). Like you, I could see adding a bit more MO.
Hi,
nice buys, I especially like MO as I recently also added some shares!
Keep up the good work!
Cheers
Thanks DivIncome. I’m surprised by the size of the MO decline. Hopefully, the downward trend will end soon. In the meantime, adding a few MOre shares could be a possibility. 🙂
Hey ED – I finally got around to making a few purchases on Christmas Eve, but was a little lazy and just picked up some stocks I’d previously researched. Will have to add ABBV and MO to my watchlist as well!
Cheers, Gary
I’ll have to check out your new purchases Gary. No problem in purchasing stocks you are comfortable with. It can be difficult to get up-to-speed on potential new holdings.
The yields offered by ABBV and MO are appealing to say the least. They should be some good ones to add to your watchlist and compare with others.
Really liking the tweaks that you’re making to the portfolio. I’m a fan of both ABBV and MO. I just finished making some tweaks of my own, and then added some shares to one of my most underweight positions today (publishing post in the morning).
Keep up the great work and stacking those dividends!
Thanks, DivvyDad. ABBV does a nice job of replacing my lost OHI income – it even pays during the same month of the quarter, which is nice. MO at over 6.5% is eye-opening.
Looking forward to see the moves you made. I’ll be sure to stop by and check them out.
